We are all too aware of the current uncertain and unnerving environment we now find ourselves in, with the recent announcement of heavier restrictions on our movement; however, it doesn’t have to be all ‘doom and gloom’. Chester Students’ Union have been formulating a timetable of activities covering the next three weeks, that we can all take part in from our own homes! We will be releasing the timetables weekly, but so far, we have got Netflix watch parties scheduled, yoga with myself (beginners’ yoga, as I am also a beginner) and cooking with Jack; there is something for everyone.
Whether it’s exercise, mindfulness or homing in on your creative side, now is the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill or finish that book you have been reading for the last year. I know I have set myself the task of becoming more flexible, learning to French plait my hair and finally finishing my Louis Theroux autobiography! Being cooped up inside can be daunting, stressful and cause anxiety, but that is why the Students’ Union will be here for you from start to finish. We have scheduled coffee mornings via Microsoft Teams that anyone can join and an FAQs page for any questions you may have around Covid-19; if we can help, we will! We do not want you to suffer over the next few weeks, we want you to talk, to express yourselves and tell us how we can help you.
In addition to all the activities we have lined up, we also wanted to help our fellow students who are self-isolating, unwell and cannot get home. That is why CSU has launched ‘Student Champions’. This is a buddy scheme that students can volunteer to join, to help students who cannot do their own food shop as they are having to isolate and to just chat to the students who may be feeling lonely throughout the isolation period. Students are the driving force for good at the University of Chester and there are so many who want to help, so by setting up the ‘Student Champions’ scheme we are providing volunteers with training and support to help those in need. We are still looking for volunteers; the more the merrier! All the information about how to volunteer to be a ‘Student Champion’ or for any of the activities we are holding can be found at our website, chestersu.com or at our Facebook page, Chester Students’ Union.
The staff at CSU are here to help throughout this period. We want you to stay safe but not close yourself off from the outside world. Join in with our activities, or even host your own. Let us know how we can help.
